the Modern bird

Reflected in our parents' eyes we thought we saw
a wire-wrapped oceanic sky--the hanging feet
of the last few birds to exit the surrounding frame:
a pit of sulfurous earth.

the Collab bird

From last year, at Likestarlings, JMW and Hoa Nguyen doing their collab thing.

Posting on the occasion of everybody's sunlit fire-escapes. On the occasion of melting toys. The grainy remembrance of cross-country breathing; the long freeways that fill my body; letters to people & of people. Air, sea, couch. On the occasion of every snowy afterthought being cohesive and still. The occasion of poetry being something we will count in years / something we count by rolling out of bed / rolled over the window panes this morning // counted poems for you in the dimples of our roof.

Happy Birthday J!

the Modern bird

A & B: Beautiful, beautiful the road stretching, birdlike, yawn- / ing from its nest, not all caught up in itself, not googling / itself admiringly, just being its daily self,  how we all ride / its coattails.
